Sheltering in Place

Late spring rain a month before the solstice

the buzz is about sacrificing some of us for the economy

few notice the smile that flickers across mammon’s face

It seems obvious whom we worship and obey

clear to whom we pledge our allegiance

Oh, great economy we who are about to die salute you

A few who see beyond this man-made Idol

to the living creation upon which it feeds

feel sorrow and compassion for innocent and guilty

The savior is here now

for anyone who makes room within

to be set free time and time again

Love comes like late spring rain

opening the heavens and pouring out for life's weal

nurturing both the sown seeds and the wild ones
